[(Important) Unattributed report: "Thousands in Guangdong Encircle, Smash Police Station; 50 People Arrested"]
The Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy has learned that an extraordinarily massive unrest occurred in Yunfu city, Guangdong, on 6 December; this was triggered by a fistfight between an out-of-towner and a local of Chadong town, which resulted in the arrest of a local villager. After the incident broke, thousands of people from Yunfu city's Chadong, Tuodong, and Nansheng towns gathered together and headed to the Chadong police station to demand the villager's release; when the police station rejected the demand, the angry villagers smashed all the doors and windows of the police station, and then got into a dogfight with hundreds of special police and armed police who were rushed to the police station; some 20 people were injured; subsequently the crowd was dispersed by the massive tear gas fired by the public security personnel. On the morning of 7 December thousands of villagers again blocked National Highway 324 to stage a demonstration; the police clashed with the people again, resulting in the arrests of 20 villagers. On 8 December some villagers went to demonstrate in front of the Yunfu city government and were dispersed by the public security personnel. According to the villagers, from 9 December till today, the authorities have dispatched massive public security personnel to all villages to hunt down those who smashed the police station; from 6 December till now more than 50 villagers have been arrested. The demonstration was videotaped by some media; however, no media dare to report on this extraordinarily massive unrest.
The Chadong police station's public security personnel has confirmed the incident to us, saying that on 6 December, it was primarily the people of Chadong who smashed the police station; that personnel also confirmed the participation of people from Tuodong and Nansheng towns.
