Hong Kong, Dec. 28 Kyodo - Three ethnic Uyghurs have been accused of killing two Han Chinese in a robbery attempt in central China's Shanxi Province, a human rights watchdog said Monday.

In the provincial capital Taiyuan, the three Uyghurs allegedly attempted to rob a Chinese woman of her backpack near the Taiyuan train station on Friday, the Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy said, adding that the woman was fatally stabbed after putting up a fight.

A Chinese man who came to her rescue was also stabbed and pronounced dead the next day in hospital, the Hong Kong-based centre said.

One of the three suspects has been arrested.

The centre said the public of Taiyuan are outraged by the frequent robberies allegedly carried out by Uyghurs against Han Chinese and the latest case has prompted some to call on the Internet for a massacre against Uyghurs.

Police are on high alert after the robbery, the centre added.

Ethnic tension remains since deadly riots in July in China's northwestern Xinjiang region between Han Chinese and native Uyghurs.

So far, China has sentenced 14 people, mostly Uyghurs, to death over the riots.
