Two Han fatally stabbed by Uygurs in attempted mugging
Two Han Chinese were fatally stabbed by three Uygurs who allegedly attacked the victims after a failed mugging attempt in Taiyuan , the capital of the northern province of Shanxi , the Hong Kong-based Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy reports. The report said that a woman was fatally stabbed by the Uygurs near Taiyuan railway station on Friday afternoon when she tried to prevent her bag from being snatched. An onlooker who tried to help was also stabbed, the centre said. A police officer from a nearby police station confirmed that stabbings had taken place. The authorities are on high alert for any ethnic conflict after rioting in Xinjiang in July, which left at least 197 dead. Choi Chi-yuk
